Overview

• Consider how the quality of clinical care can be assured.
• Know and apply the principles of clinical governance, including the response when quality is found to be below the expected standard, in either your own practice or that of others.
• Take an active part in clinical governance activities, including clinical governance and audit meetings.
• Recognise when ‘whistle-blowing’ might be necessary.
• Know the principles of risk assessment and risk management.
• Be familiar with the definitions of serious incidents and never events and ensure you are familiar with local reporting procedures, being actively involved in their investigation and management where appropriate.
