Overview |
- Understand when the removal of an eye should be considered and the alternatives to this.
- Consider how you should approach the subject with the patient, whether the patient needs expert counselling and how much time should be given to them to consider the alternatives.
- Be aware of what alternative techniques are there, and how to balance pros and cons (e.g. good cosmesis with implants against risks of extrusion and possible future delay in detection of secondary tumour).
- Be aware of what special considerations apply to the removal of a donor eye from a cadaver.
- Have a good knowledge of what support services are available and how to access them.
- Be assessed in both evisceration and enucleation including at least one procedure in vivo.
