  • Know how and when (urgent vs routine) to request them
  • Explain the benefits, risks and potential discomfort to the patient/carer
  • Be able to interpret, explain and act upon the results
  • Know the limitations and cost implication of each investigation.

Overview

 

  • Know the physical principles employed by the techniques.
  • Be aware of contrast media employed and possible contra-indications.
  • Be familiar with interpreting the images themselves.
  • Be aware of the different imaging modalities that may be available and which to choose based on the clinical scenario, e.g. macrodacrocystogram and lacrimal scintogram.
  • Be familiar with imaging protocols, e.g. for acute painful Horner’s syndrome.
