Learning Outcome

  • Understand and apply knowledge of clinical psychology relevant to ophthalmic practice.
  • Understand the psychology of vision to a basic standard and how psychological problems can become manifest with ophthalmic symptoms.
  • Recognise factors that might affect the mental state, including discrimination or exclusion.
  • Recognise when a patient’s mental state is disturbed and make appropriate arrangements for the patient’s care.
  • Understand the psychological impact of screening for ophthalmic disease, particularly in the context of pre-existing systemic conditions e.g. diabetes.
