Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) Guidance
The Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) is a formal review of how well a trainee is progressing in relation to her/his learning agreement for the training programme – it assesses the ability to progress to the next level.
An ARCP is held at least once every 12 calendar months; however, official reviews can also be conducted more frequently if there is a need to deal with progression issues. A panel of assessors undertake the ARCP to review progress based on the evidence submitted by trainees (via their e-Portfolio) and provide the outcome.
The Gold Guide sets out the arrangements agreed by the four UK Health Departments for core and/or specialty training programmes.
It is important that trainers and trainees both understand what is required at the time of each ARCP.
