2014 winners for the Bayer Educational Grant Award announced

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth), in partnership with Bayer HealthCare, today announces the 2014 winners of the inaugural Bayer Educational Grant Awards. This awards programme, sponsored by Bayer, aims to support ophthalmologists with an educational grant to present their work at educational meetings in the UK and overseas and to promote involvement in research, service development and audit for the benefit of the UK National Health Service.
The first round educational grants were awarded to 11 ophthalmologists that successfully demonstrated the value of their work to the RCOphth awards subcommittee. The second round of educational grants were awarded to a further five ophthalmologists.
Martin Leyland, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Chair of the RCOphth awards committee commented, ‘The clinical work and research carried out in the specialist field of ophthalmology by our College members in the UK is vital. Grants such as the Bayer Educational Award help our successful applicants share their knowledge and experience and supports our core aim of improving the treatment and care of patients.’
This awards programme demonstrates Bayer’s commitment to supporting ophthalmologists with education, and the promotion of best practice and advancements in ophthalmic care.
Commenting on the awards programme, Dr Luis Felipe Graterol, Medical Director, Bayer HealthCare said, ‘Bayer is proud to be working alongside the Royal College in providing a worthy educational initiative for ophthalmologists. In order to save the sight of people in the UK, we feel it is extremely important to support experts with sharing knowledge and expertise in order to deliver innovation in treatment and service delivery. Our aim is to work with the Royal College to establish this awards programme as a well-respected and valuable initiative for ophthalmologists across the UK.’
The application process for the 2015 Bayer Educational Grant Awards is due to close on Wednesday 1st April 2015. Applications are welcome from any grade of ophthalmologist working in the UK and will only be considered from those who are current and paid up Fellows, Members or Affiliate Members of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
