OTG regrets the imposition of the new contract on junior doctors

15 February 2016

The Ophthalmologists in Training Group deeply regrets the Secretary of State’s decision to impose a new contract on junior doctors. This action undermines all efforts to negotiate a balanced settlement and may risk a catastrophic loss of will amongst the professional workforce. There is real danger that the NHS is on the verge of an exodus of junior doctors who already feel undervalued and demoralised.

We urge the Secretary of State to return to the negotiating table and help deliver a contract that is both fair on doctors and fair on patients in a manner that will guarantee a sustainable medical workforce for the future, capable of maintaining the highest possible patient care.
