National Opthalmology Database (NOD) Audit Update

The data contributed in the first year (01 September 2015 – 31 August 2016) of the prospective audit is currently being cleaned and analysed by the NOD statistician. The audit report, which is expected to be published in March 2017 will include case complexity adjusted outcomes for surgical complications and visual acuity loss from cataract surgery.
As part of the Health Care Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) Clinical Outcomes Publications, identifiable outcomes of individual consultants and independent surgeons, along with those of individual centres will be published in the public domain i.e. NHS choices website and the NOD audit website in 2017.
The audit is ongoing and currently data for the second year of the prospective audit period which will run from 01 September 2016 to 31 August 2017 is being collected.
Thank you to all the surgeons who contributed data in the first year of the prospective audit. It is anticipated that more trusts will be able to contribute data in the second year of the audit data collection.
Posterior Capsular Rupture (PCR) and Visual Loss Statistical Model
The audit has developed a posterior capsular rupture and visual loss calculator which operating surgeons can use to calculate the predicted probability of PCR or visual loss occurring for an individual cataract surgery. The spreadsheet can be downloaded from the analysis section of the NOD website but please note that you need to be a registered user to get access to the document.
