Interested in mentoring an overseas ophthalmologist?

The Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium, funded by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust is currently supporting the sub-specialty training of many ophthalmologists from low and middle-income countries. Many of these individuals are from African countries who are spending a year in a major Indian training centre. The programme is coordinated by the International Centre for Eye Health.
The programme is looking for experienced UK consultant ophthalmologists to mentor fellows after they return home. This would involve two funded trips overseas, for about a week each, to provide training and support for the overseas ophthalmologist, during a two-year period. The aim of the mentoring programme is to support the development of a subspecialty service at the overseas institution. Prospective mentors would be expected to have 5+ years of subspecialty consultant experience. Previous mentoring experience would be helpful, but not essential.
