NICE draft guideline on glaucoma: diagnosis and management

7 June 2017

In addition to a consultation on draft guidelines on cataracts in adults, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has opened a consultation on draft guidelines on diagnosis and management of glaucoma, closing 4 July 2017 at 5pm.

This is a partial update of the 2009 clinical guideline on Glaucoma: diagnosis and management of chronic open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

The sections new or updated in this year’s version are:

  • Guideline committee and scope
  • Methodology
  • Case-finding, diagnosis and monitoring
  • Service models
  • Prognostic risk tools
  • Treatment of ocular hypertension, suspected chronic open-angle glaucoma and chronic openangle glaucoma

All other sections and recommendations for the 2009 guideline remain unchanged.

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ Scientific Committee will be co-ordinating a response to the consultation, and the full draft guidelines are available to view online via the NICE website.

You can view an archive of College responses to consultation documents on the College website.
