National Ophthalmology Database (NOD) Audit extended to 31 August 2019

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a contract extension to continue to manage the National Ophthalmology Database (NOD) Audit Programme until 31 August 2019. The RCOphth will continue to deliver this vital initiative, commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership as part of the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP).
The first prospective National Ophthalmology Database Audit report on cataract surgery in England and Wales was published on 13 July 2017 (www.nodaudit.org.uk/resources/publications-annual-report). 114 centres are signed up to participate in the next data analysis round. The extension of the audit will further develop and utilise validated quality standards to benchmark cataract surgery outcomes between centres and individual surgeons across England and Wales. The continued data analysis at a local and national level, will help hospital eye service teams, commissioners and patients to understand the performance levels of cataract surgery undertaken, including the leading causes of complications and adverse visual outcomes.
