Parliamentary Inquiry into capacity problems in NHS eye care services and avoidable sight loss in England

12 October 2017

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Eye Health and Visual Impairment is running an England-only Inquiry during 2017 into the issue of capacity problems in the NHS eye care services in England for which evidence shows many people are unnecessarily losing their sight.

The RCOphth is advising the APPG and supports the principles of the inquiry, which aims to investigate and gather evidence to address this issue, producing a report with a clear set of practical recommendations and showcase best practice from eye health and other areas of healthcare.

As part of the evidence gathering, RNIB is running a survey for people who have received treatment within the last three years (not including the routine provision of glasses or contact lenses) to hear about their experiences of eye care services in England (both positive and negative experiences).

Members are asked to communicate this opportunity to their patients who can access the survey online via the RNIB website or can take part over the phone, contacting the RNIB campaigns hotline on 020 7391 2123.   The patient survey will close on 20 October 2017.

RCOphth has also submitted evidence to the inquiry, which can be found here: https://curriculum.rcophth.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/RCOphth-response-to-APPG-Eye-HealthCapacity-Inquiry.pdf
