Fight for Sight: Vacancy for trustee from a clinical academic background
12 November 2015
Almost 2 million people in the UK are affected by sight loss and with an ageing population this number is set to double by 2050. It is only through investment in medical research that we can stop sight loss. Fight for Sight is the UK’s leading charity funding pioneering research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease.
Fight for Sight, with a current research commitment of over £8m, has an impressive track record of investing in research at leading universities and hospitals across the UK. This research has consistently delivered advances in our understanding of the causes of sight loss and in developing treatments. The charity is mid-way through a 5 Year Strategy and work has commenced on a new strategy to start in 2017.
Fight for Sight would like to appoint a new Trustee with a clinical academic background in retinal disease who will contribute broadly to the charity’s development. Candidates will be well-respected within their research discipline and will be familiar with grant making.
The appointee will be expected to attend four Board meetings a year in London and to sit on the Grants Committee, which is responsible for grant funding decisions, which also meets four times a year in London. Some preparatory work and other work will be necessary between meetings. The term of office for Trustees is four years and may be extended for a further four years. Trustees are unpaid but expenses can be reimbursed. All Trustees are expected to have a strong commitment to the aims of Fight for Sight.
The new Trustee will not be eligible to apply for grants from Fight for Sight.
