Overview

  • Understand the tests and imaging techniques that may be helpful in deciding about and guiding treatment.
  • Have a good knowledge of the type of lasers available, and on what basis to choose between them.
  • Be aware of how lasers work and what safety precautions are required.
  • Be aware of whether your Trust requires a formal laser initiation procedure.
  • Have a good knowledge of techniques of laser application, delivery systems and treatment strategies.
  • Be aware of the pros and cons of treatment, and how can these be best communicated to the patient.
  • Understand what complications could ensue, what follow-up is necessary, and what warnings should the patient be given.
  • Practise in a supervised simulated environment.
