Overview

  • Understand what sorts of laser procedures are possible for raised IOP and what their indications are.
  • Be aware how the laser works and what safety precautions are required.
  • Be aware whether the Trust requires a formal laser initiation procedure.
  • Consider the balance of risks and benefits, and how these should be explained to the patient.
  • Be aware whether there are any underlying conditions which would alter the risk/benefit ratio.
  • Have a good knowledge of what complications could ensue, what follow-up is necessary, and what warnings should the patient be given.
  • Know what pre and post-operative treatment is indicated for the patient.
