RCOphth disappointed at imposition of junior doctor contract
12 February 2016
The RCOphth is deeply disappointed that the Government has decided to impose a new contract on junior doctors from August 2016. We have consistently asked for a fully negotiated agreement and considerable headway had been made towards this, which would have provided a more constructive solution.
We continue to support our junior doctors, who already deliver care seven days a week, and recognise their concerns. The NHS depends on their hard work and dedication. High quality patient care is best provided by motivated staff.
At a time when we are unable to fill consultant posts due to the lack of suitable applicants, this imposition poses a real threat to recruitment and retention, and therefore, a sustainable NHS.
