• Understand the way in which the Health Service is organised and managed, including the responsibilities of major organisations such as the Department of Health, the General Medical Council, the Royal Colleges, the primary and secondary healthcare delivery organisations and understand how they interact with one another.
• Consider how healthcare is commissioned, how NHS targets are set and applied and what your personal response to these should be.
• Ensure you understand how legislation differs between the four UK countries and how this may affect your patients.
• It is important to be aware of the roles of the regulatory agencies with regard to drugs and devices.
• Consider the role of the NHS and other organisations in medical and healthcare education.
