Overview	Understand how the laser works and what safety precautions are required. Be aware whether your Trust requires a formal laser initiation procedure. Consider the balance of risks and benefits, and how these should be explained to the patient. Consider whether there are any underlying conditions that would alter the risk/benefit ratio. Have a good knowledge of what complications could ensue, what follow-up is necessary, and what warnings should the patient be given. Know what pre and post-operative treatment is indicated for the patient.
