To assess a patient clinically, in OPD and elsewhere, in particular to:

TITLE	BIOMETRY SKILLS
Code	PS25
Learning Outcome	Take an accurate refractive history and perform focimetry. Plan the optimum refractive outcome with a patient Calibrate the biometry instrument. Perform biometry and keratometry accurately and safely in a range of situations Recognise an error in the biometry result and identify when it may need to be repeated. Apply appropriate formulae.
Assessment	DOPSBi Portfolio
Assessor	Appropriately trained consultant, senior Trust Grade or senior OST (OST4 and above)
Target Year of Achievement	Year 1 and Year 7

Overview	Explain the benefits, risks and any potential discomfort to the patient/carer. Recognise abnormal scans. Edit gates where appropriate. Advise patients on the wearing of contact lens prior to biometry.
