  • Understand the indications, contraindications and risks associated with each route.

Overview

  • Study the relevant clinical anatomy prior to the administration of periocular drugs.
  • Understand the methods of action and pharmacokinetics of the drugs used.
  • Recognise the side effects of these drugs and be able to anticipate these effects in the specific context of periocular and intraocular administration.
  • Be able to constitute and administer intravitreal antibiotics, which is often performed in an emergency situation out of hours.
  • Check that the drug been stored properly and is it within its expiry date.
