Learning Outcome	Establish a trusting relationship with a patient, their carers and relatives. Recognise when there could be problems with establishing rapport and make attempts to mitigate possible effects on the clinical relationship.
Assessment	MSF Part 2 FRCOphth
Assessor	Feedback likely from: medical staff, Allied Health Professional (nurse, optometrist, orthoptists)

Overview	Reflect on what will help you develop rapport quickly in sometimes brief interactions with patients and carers. Consider what needs to happen in an interaction for rapport to develop. What qualities will a patient need to recognise in you (interest, insight, kindness, etc.) for them to trust you, and how will you demonstrate these? Consider how you will maintain rapport with a patient in situations which are stressful for them, such has surgery. Continuously develop your skills further; reflect on what could have gone better in an interaction, ask a colleague to observe you and feedback, collect patient feedback, consider courses.
