Overview	Consider which features in a patient’s clinical picture will be significant in aiding your decision as to which case is most urgent; be aware that patients’ conditions are dynamic and you may need to reassess both the conditions and your priorities. Identify which conditions will respond to rapid intervention, and remember the common algorithm to aid prioritisation: preserve sight, preserve function, relieve pain. Ensure that you participate in regular formal emergency care sessions and are included in your department’s triaging of acute referrals.
