Overview	Participate in pre-operative assessment clinics. It is recognised that arrangements vary in different hospital and clinical environments. Recognise patients with conditions which render either local or general anaesthesia hazardous. Be aware of conditions that impose a time-limited absolute contra-indication for non-emergency surgery (e.g. myocardial infarction and stroke) or other factors that may lead to cancellation on the day. Review medical therapy prior to surgery (e.g. anticoagulants) to optimise the patient’s outcome.
