Overview

  • Consider the benefits and risks of surgery and ensure that, when appropriate, these are conveyed to the patient and their relatives.
  • Understand the purpose of consent.
  • Be aware of the relevant details that will need to be recorded to safely list the patient for surgery, and consider any special requirements for the surgery, the length of the procedure, the necessary type of anaesthetic, and the type of hospital stay that may be required.
